Attorney and Chairman of the Philadelphia Republican Party, William Austin Meehan begins by talking about his father, who owned a construction firm. Meehan's father was politically involved and organized the first labor union in New York City in the contracting business. The interviewer then focuses on Meehan's political involvement and his bipartisan interests, and they discuss Meehan's opinions of various politicians.
Biographical / Historical Note
Walter M. Phillips, Sr. (1912-1985) was active in Philadelphia civic and political life for over thirty years. He worked and volunteered in a variety of city and regional organizations. After retiring, Phillips initiated an oral history project, interviewing in the 1970s many individuals with whom he had worked.
