About this Interview
An Oral history given by Charles G. Simplson, a Retired Vice President of the United Gas Improvement Corporation and the General Manager of the Philadelphia Gas Works, 1925-1970. He gives an in depth description of the highlights of his career in the gas industry, and also details his involvement with various political groups. His involvement with a variety of Philadelphia area civic groups is also discussed.
Biographical / Historical Note
Walter M. Phillips, Sr. (1912-1985) was active in Philadelphia civic and political life for over thirty years. He worked and volunteered in a variety of city and regional organizations. After retiring, Phillips initiated an oral history project, interviewing in the 1970s many individuals with whom he had worked.
