About this Interview
Elkins Wetherill became the first full-time President of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, Inc., in May, 1965, He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Stock Clearing Corporation of Philadelphia. He was chairman of the Pennsylvania Securities Commission after having served as president of the Montgomery County Commissioners and one term as Montgomery County Treasurer. He entered state government later on administration as chairman of the Pennsylvania Securities Commission. In this Oral History, Mr. Wetherill discusses at length the establishment of the DVRPC - Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, and how it functions.
Biographical / Historical Note
Walter M. Phillips, Sr. (1912-1985) was active in Philadelphia civic and political life for over thirty years. He worked and volunteered in a variety of city and regional organizations. After retiring, Phillips initiated an oral history project, interviewing in the 1970s many individuals with whom he had worked.
