About this Interview
Judge A. Leon Higginbotham, Jr. is interviewed on his early life and career and education at Yale University before coming to Philadelphia. Mr. Higginbotham talks about his work with Philadelphia city government during both the Clark and Dilworth administrations. In particular, Mr. Higginbotham discusses various political and social issues facing the black community in Philadelphia during his time as a city Judge.
Biographical / Historical Note
Walter M. Phillips, Sr. (1912-1985) was active in Philadelphia civic and political life for over thirty years. He worked and volunteered in a variety of city and regional organizations. After retiring, Phillips initiated an oral history project, interviewing in the 1970s many individuals with whom he had worked.
